Presentation
This very important topic is discussed to help the listener to understand the importance of the “Work Flow” of problem solving. This topic takes the participant from problem identification to a systematic approach that may be unique in many organizations. How do you identify customer complaints either internally or externally and utilize your process documentation as an aid in establishing disciplined problem solving? The listener will be taken through a process that will institutionalize the problem resolution that has been identified. Incorporating process documentation such as process flow charts/diagrams, process failure mode effects analysis, process control plan and planning, and ending the work flow with work or job instruction.

WORK HISTORY
Bill retired (Oct. 1, 2001) from General Motors Corp. after 30 years of service. Most of those years with General Motors were spent in the quality disciplines. The following somewhat describes my background.

BACKGROUND
With a strong background in many disciplines within the quality control arena, I began my work in quality control in 1986 as a technician. My earliest responsibilities included implementing SPC for the first time in an automotive foundry operation.

I have held many roles in quality since that time including working as a quality coordinator/manager for a large machining and assembly operation at Saturn Corporation, Spring Hill, Tn. While at Saturn I had roles including being a member/leader of the QS9000 implementation team that brought Saturn Corporation to compliance with the QSR 3rd edition (QS9000).

My duties at Saturn included managing the quality system for the general assembly plant and coordinating the activities with the supplying plants of Powertrain and Body Systems. The Powertrain plant provides the engine and transmission. Body Systems is a stamping, fabricating and paint facility that supplies the space frame for the Saturn vehicle as well as the painted panels for the finished vehicle.

I was involved in the development of the quality systems for Saturn. My quality system involvement at Saturn included the writing of the quality manual and corporate procedures to the development of the plant procedures. Additional responsibilities included the training and implementation of the quality systems as it was revised to comply with QS9000.

As President of National Quality Services I have conducted many hours of training on many quality-related subjects and am well trained and versed in many of the quality disciplines. These include SPC, MSA, FMEA, PPAP, APQP, as well as the requirements of ISO/TS16040:2002, ISO9001:2000. I have also had extensive training and application of structured problem solving utilizing several different methods. These include the Taguchi method of DOE as well as less formal data analysis and problem solving methods.

CSCP Exam and Registration

To become a certified CSCP, three dates must be kept in mind associated with each scheduled testing period. The Exam Date itself, the Exam Registration Deadline Date and the Eligibility Application Deadline Date. See the table below for information regarding the scheduled test dates in 2008. Unlike the CPIM series of exams which are available on demand, CSCP candidates only have three opportunities this year to sit for exams. The deadlines for the two remaining exam dates are:

Exam Date: December 13, 2008

      Eligibility Application Deadline: October 17

      Exam Registration Deadline: October 31
